Season 11 review

When season 11 first started I must admit that I wasn't sure where it was heading. I have never really liked it when a television series or movie does a dream sequence, because when they do this I feel like it is, because they have no idea where they are going with the story. It is as if they have ran out of ideas, and the only way they can carry on, is to backtrack, and almost cancel out the previous season. So when it first started I was thinking oh here we go again, we have another X-men movie here. Whenever they flash forwards, backwards, make a dream sequence it never quite makes sense anymore. I was thinking that maybe season 10 didn't even need to happen, because Scully pretty much dreamt season 10, and therefore it was no longer relevant, however with each episode I was proven wrong. I must admit I have been pleasantly surprised with most episodes, although I feel like it started off weakly it definitely improved week by week. I really enjoyed the classic one off episodes, I always loved that about X-Files, for example one week Scully would be dying, and the week after she was dancing with Mulder to Cher (Post modern Prometheus, a personal favorite of mine.) I loved how they broke up the serious story lines with humor. I don't want to go into too much detail really, because I don't want to give too much away.

What I didn't enjoy about season 11 was the fact some of the episodes specifically Rm9sbG93ZXJz didn't have original ideas, which I understand after 25 years, not every idea can be completely original. This episode felt like an episode of black mirror, and although I did enjoy this episode it did not feel like I was watching The X-Files at all. Another episode I found was a rehashed unoriginal idea was Familiar. If I had to describe this episode, I would say that it is very similar to the movie IT, and in some scenes this episode even reminded to of Chucky. It felt like a remake of a 80s classic horror movie.

I really enjoyed this season, in my opinion it was so much better than season 10. Stronger story lines, 90s nostalgia at its finest, some great Mulder and Scully shipper moments .. What more do you want ? I did feel there was a little less chemistry this season, but after 25 years in an off and on again relationship, what can we expect?

I may expand my review, after a re-watch, but this is all I have for now.

Thank you for reading
